The South Carolina Gamecocks offense didn’t look particularly sharp in their season opening contest at North Carolina State. Of course with the way their defense was playing, they didn’t have to be. The Gamecock defense completely shut down the Wolfpack offense en route to a 7-3 South Carolina victory. The win gave the Gamecocks their second straight season opening victory over North Carolina State”South Carolina won 34-0 in Columbia to start the 2008 football season.

South Carolina cashed bettors’ tickets as the Gamecocks won outright as +5 road underdogs. Not surprisingly, the 10 combined points came nowhere near the post total of 48 for an easy UNDER.

The Gamecock defense held NC State to 11 first downs and just 133 yards of total offense. Nothing worked for the Wolfpack who were equally as inept running the football (59 yards) as they were passing (74 yards). After the game, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier gave credit for the victory to the effort of his defense:

Our defensive guys played their hearts out. Played good, solid football.

Spurrier has only lost once in his last twenty opening games (19-1). It marked the first time a South Carolina team had won a game while scoring less than 10 points since a 7-3 win over Memphis State in 1971.

Traveling is probably one of the most fantastic and exhilarating activities that you can do. The whole world is practically laid out before you, just waiting to be explored. And what’s even greater, no two places are exactly the same. It’s a whole new experience with every destination. But traveling can also be problematic, what with the preparations you have to do before you go. It is, therefore, of grave importance that you choose the most appropriate travel bags before you go. You cannot take your entire house with you, after all. And all your comforts have to be packed into a suitcase. It is only right that this suitcase be the best for you.

So, to help you pick, be sure to consider these various factors:

Material

The travel bag’s material is of extreme importance because this is what the bag’s longevity will depend on. Bags with metal frames may be the most durable of all, but they are also rather weighty. They will cost you a lot when you have them weighed at the airport and they will also be much weightier to lug around. There are materials today that are lightweight and yet strong, so be sure to choose these. The bag’s cloth type is also important. Be sure that the cloth does not tear quickly. If possible, find a bag that is water proof, as you don’t want your belongings soaked should you find yourself under the rain.

The UFC has only recently brought mixed martial arts to the mainstream in the US, but in Japan there’s a long tradition of fights pitting contestants from different disciplines against each other. While they’ve only been called MMA or ‘mixed martial arts’ in recent years, the sport clearly has its roots in these early contests between wrestlers, judo fighters and boxers. In Japan, Antonio Inoki’s fights against world famous martial artists brought great notoriety to the still evolving sport.

Inoki would often face other martial artists in fights that are widely accepted to have been “worked” (having a predetermined outcome) in the same manner as professional wrestling matches. While Inoki faced a number of karate, judo and boxing champions his most famous match was certainly his fight against world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali.

There’s still much speculation about how Muhammad Ali came to fight Japanese wrestling legend Antonio Inoki, and even more uncertainty about what happened immediately before and during the fight. Ali took the booking because he thought it was to be a big paycheck for little work. Most accounts suggest that his handlers agreed to the ‘worked’ finish without his knowledge, and once he found out that he was to ‘take a dive’ he refused.

Dressing for success isn’t just for a first date or a job interview. It’s just as important out on the mountain, where the wrong outfit can mean a lot more than just looking silly. Whether you’ve been snowboarding forever or are just starting out, the most important thing to remember is that dressing for the elements is just as much a part of staying safe as having the right kind of board and staying off of runs that are too difficult for your skill level.

Before you can even think about your board, it’s important to get the right clothing for a day on the mountain. There are two crucial steps to keep in mind when dressing yourself for a day of snowboarding: remember to layer, and cotton kills.

Cotton should be avoided at all costs because unlike synthetics, it actually holds water in instead of wicking it away. That matters when snow is melting on your boots and potentially getting into your socks. An excellent sock made of a materiel like SmartWool will keep you dry and healthy, while cotton will only lead to trouble. Don’t even put a layer of cotton over something synthetic: avoid it at all costs. Good winter gear won’t have cotton elements.

No doubt about those Pickerel and Walleye fish are just plain wily smart. Say what you can, but even the dumbest Walleye fish seems to more than intelligent when it comes to evading novice fishing sports enthusiasts. Even then it’s better to be out on the prowl for those “creatures of the deep” than back “at the office” in the boring, hot city. The early bird gets the worm, and that smart aquatic creator gets your minnows and bait,

It is not your imagination. Although you may see lots of trophy sized and master angler Walleye and Pickeral fish, most of what you catch will be in the 1 to 3 lb ranges, with 2 pounds weight being the norm. These sized variety are tasty beyond belief, as many the family of avid anglers know and yearn for. Fried up on the spot - yummy. It’s only the larger and master angler trophy sized, which seem to make it back home after the fishing trip and expedition to be off to the taxidermist and taxidermists to be mounted and stuffed.

Snowboarding is one of those sports that is gathering more followers by the day, associated with hip, youthful style and energy. However, what many people don?t realize when they first decide to hit the slopes on a snowboard is that this is a very demanding sport that requires people to be in good physical condition to be able to enjoy themselves?and avoid injury!

That?s right: if you are not careful, your otherwise enjoyable snowboarding trip could be turned into a complete nightmare! So before you snap on the boots and the board, make sure that you are up to the challenge and are in good enough condition to handle this sport, avoiding injury to yourself and to others (common with first-time boarders).

To being with, you shouldn’t even be thinking about putting together a snowboarding trip if you are not in somewhat decent physical condition. It’s not necessary for you to be at the Olympic level of competition, but in the case that you have doubts regarding the shape you’re in then at least be modest and careful on the trails. Make constant stops and keep yourself to the beginner’s trails, and avoid fatiguing yourself until you are ready to throw the towel in for the day. Though it may seem strange, many first times to the sport only discover how exhausted they are when they are on the verge of causing some sort of incident or accident on the trail.

For some reason, the great memories of summer days stick in our minds forever. With the extra sun and heat giving everyone an added spring in the step, crowds flock to the beaches all over the country to get a taste of summer in its ideal environment. There is no better place than the beach in the height of summer, with the wind rolling off the sea and your friends by your side.

As we’ve all learned over time, overexposure to the sun can also have its drawbacks. Besides the fatigue that will set in from the heat, the potent UV rays can prove harmful to the skin. Sometimes a trip to the beach can turn out to be a real disappointment, like when the weather turns foul and sends everybody home in a bad mood.

The only way to make the most of your beach days is to prepare for both the best and the worst of times. That means hoping for a beautiful day with no threat of rain, but having a secondary plan in case ominous clouds appear on the horizon. Taking along a marquee is an excellent way to cover both ends of the spectrum.

Its that time of the year again”Americans are getting ready for football. In a few months NFL teams will be opening training camp and college football teams starting practice. Up north, however, the footballs are already flying as pro football is in full swing up in Canada with the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Most Americans dont realize that the CFL has a lengthy and storied history. The league itself has been around since 1930, and the Canadian Football championship”known as the Grey Cup”has been contended since 1909. More recently, American fans are aware that a number of NFL stars got their start in the CFL including Doug Flutie, Jim Kelly, and Jeff Garcia.

While the CFL plays football at the highest professional level of competition outside of the NFL, there are a few differences in the game:

At the most basic level, the football itself is bigger than the NFL ball. It is longer and fatter than the NFL ball. The CFL goal posts are on the goal line, while the NFLs are on the end line at the back of the endzone. The CFL field is also longer (110 yards) and wider (65 yards vs. the NFLs 53.5 yards), and the CFL end zones are 20 yards deep as opposed to 10 yards in the NFL.

For all around performance out of a player’s racquet, the Head Liquidmetal Instinct might be one of the best choices around. We found it had no true weaknesses, and plays just as well at net as it does from the baseline.

The racquet only weighs about 11.1 ounces strung, making it extremely light and comfortable, yet still strong enough to handle heavy balls from your opponent.

We loved the way the racquet connected with our strings, and we were able to place the ball around the court as well as any racquet lets us. While it’s light and it has a bigger head, in no way will it limit your game.

We loved the power too. We found ourselves swinging at 80% of our usual racquet speed, and there was a little more oomph in our shots than usual. Serving was phenomenal, especially our second serves. They fell somewhere in between the speed of our usual second serves and our usual first serves.

While we loved what this racquet did for our ground strokes, someone using it for the first time may want to proceed with caution, as the light weight of the racquet can at first lead to some over hitting.

Golf fans were all stunned today when Tiger Woods was defeated by an unknown Y.E. Yang at the PGA championship. The lead was all Tiger’s, and to have seen him blow it, well, many weren’t expecting it to put it lightly. Yang is the first ever Asian golfer to ever win a major event, and this is the first time Tiger Woods ever lost a major on the last day after having held the lead.

Yay? I don’t think the PGA, it’s sponsors, or the casual golf fan are very happy. Tiger Woods in the starter, middle reliever, and closer for the PGA. Without Tiger, as we saw last year, no one cares. Now, people are getting the feeling that Tiger has lost it. He didn’t win a major this year and pretty much choked away the PGA Championship after missing the cut at the British Open.

Woods is by no means past his prime. After returning from an injury that ended his 2008 campaign, Woods has bounced back with wins at five tournaments. Some of these involved some vintage Woods Sunday comebacks. Unfortunately, the majors are far more watched than the other tournaments, so the typical sports fan doesn’t realize that all’s not lost in Tiger’s corner.
