It should come as no surprise that the Golden State is shot-through with big cities. From San Francisco to Los Angeles to Newport Beach and back up the coast again, there are no shortages of big cities to choose from. To be sure, smaller college towns like Berkeley, Davis, and Irvine also get folded into the Golden State batter. With all of these options, what makes Sacramento the capitol?
Christened by the stalwart Gabriel Moraga, Sacramento was little more than a trading post when John Sutter arrived in 1839 from Switzerland. Within ten years he and his heirs would guide the transformation of the trading post into a military barracks for the U.S. Army and eventually into an incorporated city. Sacramento is the oldest incorporated city in the state, having been invested in 1850. This does not mean it is the oldest, however, as that distinction belongs to Monterey.
After the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), the capital of California was moved from Monterey. The first city to be designated the new capitol was San Jose. When the state legislature met there in 1850, it was argued the capitol should be moved further inland to avoid retribution either from Mexico or the Spanish Empire.
It is understandable that Chicago can be overwhelming to first time visitors. There is so much to do that it’s hard to know where to start. Well some of the first Chicago attractions you should see are the John Hancock Observatory or the Skydeck of the Sears Tower. These will give you an impressive view of the city you are about to explore.
Next you might want to discover your roots, if they come from this part of the country that is. Regardless, take a walk on Navy Pier. You’ll find the TimeScape that allows you to experience the history of Chicago in a really neat three dimensional journey with motion simulation and all. In Navy Pier, you can also take time for some fun at the Funhouse Maze of Chicago.
I bet you never thought you could explore Chicago in a way as interactive as this one. But that’s not all. For the kids, or even the adults who still have some kid spirit in them, there is another Chicago attraction that is sure to please. It’s called the FireZone, and it help kids understand fire safety directly from the real firefighters who deal with it every day. Kids won’t forget this experience, and they’ll take life lessons home with them.
Joining a lottery syndicate is a must for people who want to improve their odds of winning a lottery. In being a part of a lotto syndicate, you are thirty six times more likely to win than if you purchase a lottery ticket on your own. Though the jackpot will be split up between several people, there is a much greater chance of getting a prize than there would be if purchased separately, even though the prize would be larger.
It has been said that over a quarter of all lottery wins are won by lottery syndicate groups. This is a very high number, proving a much higher chance of winning the jackpot. Normally, as a member of a lottery syndicate, the average person spends a lot less than he would if he was purchasing the tickets on his own. It costs less, but the chances of winning are much higher. That doesnt leave much to the questioning of whether to join one or not.
Disneyland is a well known destination theme park that is often said to be the happiest place on earth. Anybody who has ever heard of Mickey Mouse knows how popular the Disney franchise has become. But just because it is the happiest place on earth does not mean that it is not expensive to get in.
With entrance to Disneyland at such a high price, as has historically been the case, it is no surprise that there are lots and lots of people searching for Disneyland discount tickets. They’re not the only business to offer discounts, but theirs are in very high demand.
Because Disneyland is obviously among the most desirable places in Southern California, there is high demand for Disneyland discount tickets. Because that demand is always present, the powers that be do not feel it is necessary for them to just hand out discounts. But they do make it possible for other to offer them to the public.
The easiest way to get a discount is to go to Disneyland on your birthday in 2009. Disneyland released this promotion that if you go there on your birthday, they will let you in for free as their gift to you. That is the best discount and offer you could possibly receive from them.
Enjoy the small, sheltered and cosy delights of east facing Traeth Bychan beach near Benllech, down a narrow country lane off the A5025. If you want to really appreciate some fine sea and mountain views covering Llanddona, the Carneddau peaks above Bangor, Puffin Island and Liverpool Bay, you must come here.
Traeth Bychan is rocky on each side of the cove, giving way to a mixture of gravelly sand and small pebbles as the beach reaches up to the small stone and concrete boat park. This quiet location is the home of Red Wharf Bay Sailing and Watersports Club, and when we arrived on this occasion there were a number of dinghies and motor craft being towed up from the water, while a fishing boat waited for its trailer to arrive.
At the dinghy park on this beach there are Lasers, Toppers, Mirrors, GP14’s and other classes. The beach faces the east and so is ideal for launching boats, when the prevailing wind on Anglesey is from the south west. When we arrived here the sun was out and some keen, though tired, sailors were helping guide a vehicle with launch trailer into the water.
Are London hotels as expensive as people say?
Visitors to London often complain about the high price of hotels. Are they right to do so?
Expensive is a relative term. You can have a wonderful priceless experience or spend little and find it poor value. Value is not easy to define.
What then does the hard data say? London apparently has the 5th most expensive hotels in the world, after Moscow, New York, Dubai and Venice (source: Hotels.com survey).
An alternative study by Hogg Robinson indicates that hotel prices in London are in 10th place, behind cities such as New York and Mumbai as well as quite a few others.
The bad news is that London is pricey because there is plenty of leisure and business demand to visit the UK’s capital city. This unfortunately keeps prices high throughout the year.
But there is good news too. You can still grab value for money in London hotels but only if you search carefully. To achieve this, you should use independent blogs (such as London Hotels Insight) rather than hotel or booking websites which just want you to reserve any hotel as quickly as possible.
